A record year for GCSE results

Congratulations to all of you who have just received your GCSE results. It’s a record year for the 690,000 pupils who’ve been put through their paces in recent months. 7 out of 10 entries were awarded a grade C or above, a fantastic achievement.

Ignore the usual cries of ‘exams getting easier’ and congratulate yourselves on a job well done.

Congratulations to students and teachers who’ve just received their Sats results!
It’s great to see an improvement on last year with 81% reaching the level expected in English – 1% up on last year and a huge improvement on years gone by.

Here at RiS we believe passionately that podcasting can help this upward trend. After all, it’s all about communication – and what better way to practise than by writing and recording radio programmes or podcasts.

Radio in Schools - improving one of life’s most fundamental skills

1 in 6 people struggle with literacy in the UK* – that’s the basic reading, writing, speaking and listening that the rest of take for granted.

It’s a shocking statistic in one of the richest countries in the world, and means a significant proportion of our population is cut off from opportunities. That’s why Radio in Schools is backing the Year of Communication (working title) – which will launch in 2011.

World Cup fever…RiS and the beautiful game

As the eyes of the world look to South Africa for the World Cup, budding sports reporters and football commentators in Bristol, UK are using Radio in Schools to hone their skills and clinch themselves a place in the communicators’ premier league.

Over 700 children a year at Bristol City FC and Rovers FC study centres are creating football themed podcasts through Radio in Schools.
